What is a Natural Playground?

The aim of a natural playground is to bring children in contact with nature.  It provides a natural space that will expand children’s imaginations, stimulate all five senses, and focus on passive, imaginative and physical play!

The new natural playground at WT Townshend will be site specific and will take into consideration the existing play yard conditions at WTT and will be customized for our space!

What the Kids at WTT want in their Playground?

Partially Covered Sandbox Area, Accessible Gardens & Flower beds, Fort or Treehouse, Gathering Spaces for passive play, Bridges, Tunnels & Willow Arbour, Platform & Stage, Places to sit (Rocks & Benches), Log jam & Climbing Animal (Canada Goose), Tall Poles & May Pole, No Mow Maze with Gravel path, Railway Ties & Gravel Paths

Why Support Our Natural Playground?

WTT is located on Activa Avenue in SW Kitchener. We are the second largest K-6 school in Waterloo Region with approximately 750 students!

Our school backs onto the Laurentian Wetlands and with our neighbour John Sweeney Catholic School we are the main playspace for the community!
