We are diligently attempting to remedy 2 problems which have become a concern this year.  One is that of theft from student backpacks, and the other a result of our safe school survey from last spring which indicates that not all children feel safe in the washroom.  In an attempt to remedy both these concerns, we have been trying to limit the situations where large groups of children are going to the washroom at once during the snack portion of nutrition breaks where there is less direct supervision from classroom teachers.  Rather, we are releasing our Trailblazers earlier to go to the washroom and wash their hands before they start to eat, so they can stay in their rooms during snack time.  Teachers are more directly in control of student behavior as a result and we hope this trend of mischief will lessen.  At no time is there an outright “no” is a child asks to go to the bathroom in an emergency.   We are attempting to respond to parent concerns, and strike a good balance between reasonable expectations for the children, and not being too rigid with rules.  Thanks to all for communicating concern directly to me around all issues at WTT!
